Candida and what to do.

Episode 1: Candida — Why It's Not a Disease You Caught The Reality of Herbal Therapy Podcast With Dr. Michael E. James, C.H., M.H., NMD, and Scott James, C.H.
In the first episode of the Reality of Herbal Therapy podcast, Dr. Michael James and his son Scott take apart one of the most misunderstood ideas in health: Candida. Most people treat it like a disease they "caught." Dr. James explains it's the opposite — Candida is a normal resident of a healthy digestive tract, and an overgrowth is simply a signal that the balance has tipped.
The episode lays out a picture of the gut as a balance between two groups of organisms — acidophilus and Candida — that together handle digestion. When antibiotics and refined food knock down the acidophilus, Candida rises to fill the gap to keep digestion going. Scott introduces the idea of homeostasis, the body's drive to keep everything in proper ratio, and explains why an overgrowth gets pushed out through the skin — the rashes, red patches where skin touches skin, and yeast that shows up far from the gut.
From there the conversation turns to what actually restores the balance. Not killing yeast, but feeding the acidophilus. The brothers cover why processed "white" food starves good cultures, why digestive enzymes come from whole foods themselves, why fruit helps rather than harms by encouraging the liver to cleanse, and why food combining — never eating protein and starch in the same meal — resolves the majority of digestive complaints. Dr. James is blunt about priorities: 80% of recovery is changing your diet. Herbs do the rest.
The episode closes with the herbal formulas Dr. James reaches for — Colesir and Fection to restore balance in the digestive tract, Blood Wash when the problem has surfaced in the skin — plus practical food medicine like real yogurt, sauerkraut, coconut oil, and apple cider vinegar with honey. And a memorable warning about where commercial acidophilus actually comes from that's worth hearing in his own words.
What you'll hear:
- Why "I have Candida" is true of everyone — and why that's the wrong way to think about it
- The acidophilus-to-Candida balance and what destroys it
- Why Candida overgrowth shows up in the skin
- Why fruit and fermented foods help instead of hurt
- The one food-combining rule that resolves most digestive trouble
- The formulas Dr. James starts people on — and how to dose them
- A reason to choose real yogurt and sauerkraut over acidophilus pills
